Addendum: New Endeavors

Two quick things I forgot to mention:

In response to the Fritz question, the coffee sucks. They grow coffee that is considered as good as Columbian beans, export all of it, and then import and consume ONLY néstle flavor crystals.

Washing Clothes - If I had to come up with a torture technique to replace water-boarding at Guatanamo, I would have prisoners hand wash and dry all of their sheets and clothes. I had maybe 3 pairs of socks, a pair of jeans, a few pairs of boxers, and 1 t-shirt. After 2 1/2 hours of scrubbing, rinsing, rinsing, scrubbing, and then hanging, I was completely worn out and hated all of my clothes. If I didn´t have a little extra money to pay for laundry service for the rest of my time here (about $3 for everything I have, which lasts nearly 2 weeks), I would happily choose to be the smelly tourist who scares everyone with my stench. It was literally that bad, and worse. Never again...EVER.

  1. I did the same washing bit in Costa Rica last summer, but the price to pay someone was quite high. Nevertheless, I preferred to stink after that.

  3. They just showed a great documentary on TV from a book called "Blue Zones". Evidently there are currently 5 blue zones in the World where people live to 100 or more. All are rural and 4 of them are in 3rd World countries. A 6th is about to be declared in Costa Rica. Who knows Otavalo might be next.
